As Salone del Mobile and Milan Design Week get under way today, January’s Maison et Objet and IMM Cologne perhaps seem a distant memory, but many of the products launched during the winter chill are just now becoming available in the U.S., including several new releases from the young Danish brand &Tradition.
Cloud, a lounge-sofa series designed by the Italian-born, Stockholm-based Luca Nichetto, introduces a pouf and a one-, two-, and three-seater sofa to &Tradition’s well-curated selection of furniture. “My aim was to combine the Italian and Danish traditions of making sofas,” says Nichetto. “Cloud has the defined shape of the Danish design tradition and the soft and cozy pillows of the Italian one.” Indeed, the line features enticing, soft cushions set against simple metal frames in black-blue, red, gray, or white upholstery from the hugely successful Raf Simons for Kvadrat collection of fabrics.
Tineke Beunders and Nathan Wierink of the Dutch studio Ontwerpduo are the designers behind Light Forest, a flexible lighting system that is both wall and ceiling mountable. Easily adjustable aluminum tubes form the lamp’s so-called branches, while bell-shaped lampshades with copper interiors serve as the blossoms or foliage. Coated in a forest-green matte lacquer, the lamp can be configured in endless patterns and combinations, allowing for distinctive, space-specific solutions.
Finally, on the accessories front, &Tradition has introduced True Colors, a series of oxidized metal vases by the Dutch designer Lex Pott. Using seven types of metals, including copper, steel, and brass, the cylindrical vases reveal the materials in their natural and oxidized states, creating a stunning juxtaposition that’s a perfect complement to spring’s coveted blooms.
