In the world of architecture, Frank Gehry is a living legend. Not only has the 88-year-old architect built such iconic structures as the Fondation Louis Vuitton in Paris, the Dancing House in Prague, and the Walt Disney Concert Hall in Los Angeles, to name a few, but he's also won the Pritzker Prize and been awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom by President Barack Obama. So it makes sense that many New Yorkers swoon to live in his most famous building in the Big Apple: New York by Gehry. And now, for only the second time in the building's history, they have a chance to do so in the 76th floor penthouse.
Completed in 2010, the 870-foot skyscraper features some of the most sought-after apartments in the city. Even if it wasn't designed by a world-famous architect, the location itself sets it apart from many other buildings. Nestled in lower Manhattan next to the Brooklyn Bridge and City Hall Park, the structure has unparalleled views of the East River and Brooklyn from one side, One World Trade Center and the Woolworth Building from the other. Adding to the building's accolades, of course, is the spectacular design: At times the sunlight hits the facade, making it look as if streams of water are rushing toward the ground. “New York by Gehry is an iconic sculpture that pierces the city’s skyline with its unmatched stainless steel, wave-like facade," says Susi Yu, executive vice president of development at Forest City New York, the real estate company that owns the building. Below, enjoy a tour of the magnificently designed penthouse, taking in all of the sweeping views the luxe space has to offer.
Standing some 870 feet tall, New York by Gehry is among the tallest residential skyscrapers in the world.
