In summer the Luxembourg Palace is framed by symmetrical potted palms and reflected in the Grand Basin, an octagonal pond. The building and surrounding gardens were commissioned by Marie de Médicis, widow of France’s King Henry IV, in 1612.

A beautiful orangery adjacent to the palace, built in 1839 by Alphonse de Gisors, is used as a greenhouse and storage space for more than 180 types of plants, some over 250 years old.

The garden changes constantly throughout the year with natural growing cycles and the gardeners’ evolving displays. Here, palms are set up for the spring and summer months.
