For a 2013 collection called Play, Nendo teamed with the 260-year-old Japanese Arita-yaki porcelain factory Gen-emon, adding its contemporary twist to the ceramicmaker’s famous blue-and-white motifs. By enlarging the patterns, cutting them up, and reappropriating the parts, Nendo created new designs from classics.

Nendo experimented with designing footwear for Italian brand Tod’s in 2014 with a suede-and-leather driving shoe enclosed by a string tie that mimics that of an envelope.

Spanish shoe brand Camper tapped Nendo in 2014 to design a line of sunglasses. The result combines two colored lenses to create an eclipse of shade.

Nendo partnered with Milanese company Bisazza Bagno in 2012 on a bathroom collection made of larch that was inspired by Japanese hot springs and public baths.

In 2014 Nendo teamed with Danish designers BoConcept on Fusion, a 13-piece collection of furniture and household goods. Riffing on the Japanese craft of origami, the sofa shown here has modular cushions that allow the single form to take a variety of shapes.

In 2013 Nendo designed Peg, a series of chairs for Italian furniture brand Cappellini in which two wood legs pierce the backrest. The diminutive form was inspired by vehicles such as the Fiat 500 and Smart Cars that dominate the Milan streets.

Made of maple with brightly colored knit accents, Nendo’s whimsical collection for Walt Disney Japan in 2014 was meant to evoke Winnie the Pooh’s neighborhood, the Hundred Acre Wood.

In a 2013 collection for bespoke Czech Republic–based glassblowers Lasvit, Nendo combined glass cut using different techniques into cups and bowls that resemble patchwork quilts.

In a 2014 series of minimalist tables for Glasitalia, Nendo brushed colored paint onto a transparent glass surface, creating an effect that resembles wood grain or stone.

In 2014 Nendo reimagined a simple stool, table, and chair by American furniture company Emeco with eco-conscious materials, including reclaimed oak, recycled aluminum, and recycled polyethylene.
