Google Home is the American firm’s feature-packed digital butler. Like its main rival – the Amazon Echo – it will play your favourite tunes, boost your pub quiz chances and help out with your day-to-day organisation.
The price of these features and more? £129. Well, at least it used to be. You can currently save £60 on Google Home, bringing the total price down to a more-than-palatable £69.
The deal is available from both Currys PC World and Argos , but we’d recommend purchasing from John Lewis , as a result of its stellar reputation for customer service and included two-year guarantee.

So, what exactly will you be getting for this money? And, more importantly, why should you opt for Google Home over the similarly priced Amazon Echo?
Our original five-star review concluded back in April 2017 that “no other personal assistant comes close to Google Home”, and this is still the case today.
As previously mentioned, it does everything you’d expect from a modern home helper. Think news and weather updates, voice-controlled apps and integration with other smart devices in your home.
As a bonus, it can also speak two languages at once. This no gimmick, but a real gamechanger for bilingual households. You’ll still have to activate the speaker with the traditional “OK Google”, but then you can slip into whichever tongue you prefer.
It packs a decent punch in terms of sound quality, too. Voices are crisp and clear, and you get a surprising amount of bass from such a small speaker.
If you’re concerned about privacy, you can also take comfort from the fact that Google has made it clear Home listens only to things you give it permission to listen out for.
In short, Google Home is an unbeatable smart speaker. The only thing that would have put us off previously was its relatively high price compared to some of its rivals.
For now, at least, John Lewis looks to have solved the latter problem. Make sure you don’t miss out.
